Back AGAIN!

Wow, it has been a year since I posted before.  One year later and I am back again.  I will not feel embarrassed about how many times I have restarted.  I want this blog to encourage others when they are ready to commit or recommit.  It is important for YOU to see that it took me several years to get in the right mindset.  I truly feel the time is now!  I ask myself, "what is different this time".  Well, here it goes:

1. In March, I finished nursing my last baby.  With 4 kids and nursing all 4 kids, I have given a lot of time to my family.  I am ready for ME!  Even though it was very difficult to stop nursing my last baby, afterward I felt free. On Saturday, March 17th I started my Recommit to be Fit!

2.  Support!  I have read numerous times that you need a support system to do this.  My husband is supportive, but will give into a craving easily.  My mom tries to encourage, but sometimes does not do it in the most pleasant manner.  My BFF is a wonderful listener, but she too struggles with the same issues.  I branched out and found a few friends that had lost 70-100 pounds recently.  I asked each of them for some secrets/tips.  I took all the information in and created MY plan.  One of those friends has been a great supporter.  A simple, "Wow, your doing great", goes a LONG way.  It also helps to know that she just went through this.

3.  No DIET plan.  NO Money.  My husband has always told me the secret to weight loss is no secret.  What goes in has to be less than what goes out!  Input/Output.  I do not mean poop (ok- I have 3 boys and this word is a HUGE part of the vocab in my house whether I like it or not=).  I mean CALORIES.  In all my attempts at losing weight I had not counted calories.  I have tried or read the books for: Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins, ABS Diet, Body for Life, Dr. Oz book, Dr. Phils Book, Reshaping it All.  I even have went to a medically supported weight loss program, which was all shakes and bars.  UGH!  I am sure there were numerous more attempts!  This time, I am simply counting my calories.

4.  I feel ready.  I simply feel that I have my priorities straight.  I am ready to lose the weight and be healthy!

What am I doing?  I am sure this will change along the journey, but here is a run down of my current program.

1.  My Fitness Pal: This is a great app/website.  I use it mostly on my iphone.  This program helped me to realize how many calories that I should have each day based on my goals and sedentary life with 5 days of exercise.  I can easily search the database or use the scan feature to track my calories.  My favorite feature is the FRIENDS.  Currently, I just have a few friends on MFP.  We can share our food diaries with each other (accountability and share ideas).  We also encourage each other and share in our triumphs.  This is a little like facebook, but I don't have to put my weight loss information out there to all my facebook friends!

2.  Exercise: My goals is 5 days a week, 30 minutes a day.  I try to go for 6 days, but not 7.  My knees need the day of rest.  I have always loved exercise, but this has been very difficult for me this time.  I think it has to do with those 4 kids!  2 older kids that are in 4H, sport of the season, scouts, church, piano lessons, etc.  Plus the 2 younger babes that keep me on the go and constrained to the house or to the need of a sitter.  Thanks to the advice of a friend, I have moved to videos.  I have also committed to the Couch to 5K program.  This program takes you from the couch to running a 5K in 9 weeks.  They have a very cool app that tells me when to jog and went to walk briskly.  LOVE IT!  Just three days a week!  Now, I am trying to be gentle with my knees.  I need them for quite a few more years and carrying an extra 100 pounds has not been good for them.  It is easier to walk, but I feel to get the same effects as jogging, you need to walk more miles.  I don't have the time.  I am lucky to get to the track 3 days per week for 30 minutes.  I need the most BANG for my BUCK!

That is it!  Counting Calories and Exercising!  YEA!
